Diesel has exceeded the significant threshold of 10 lei/liter, two days after the reduction of the excise tax, according to recently updated data on the platform PECO Online.
The lowest price of 10.02 lei/liter is at a Rompetrol station in Clinceni, Ilfov County, while gasoline has a minimum price of 9.47 lei/liter at an RST station in Târgoviște. In major cities, diesel costs from 10.09 lei/liter in Cluj-Napoca to 10.14 lei/liter in Bucharest, Iași, and Constanța.
This increase in prices comes after a temporary reduction of the excise tax by 20%, which was applied between August 16 and 31, 2026. The reduction led to a temporary drop in the price of diesel below 10 lei, but recent price increases by companies such as Petrom and Rompetrol have eroded the effect of this measure, according to Medifax.
The Ministry of Finance justified the reduction of the excise tax against the backdrop of rising international prices for diesel, which have increased significantly in recent weeks.
