Dani Mocanu, a well-known Romanian manele singer, was placed under house arrest after fleeing to Italy to escape a 4-year prison sentence for attempted murder and disturbing public peace. According to sources, his father owns a house in Italy, and Mocanu and his brother, Ionuț, lived for a while in Desenzano del Garda, an exclusive tourist area on the shores of Lake Garda.
The Italian police learned of their location, but the brothers managed to flee before being captured. They were later found in Caivano, near Naples, where they were hiding. Although they were cooperative at the time of their arrest, they are now awaiting the decision of the Italian judges regarding extradition. However, Romania is facing difficulties in obtaining the extradition, considering that Italian courts have previously rejected similar requests due to the conditions in Romanian prisons. This situation could also complicate Dani Mocanu's case.
