The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, sparked controversy in the Ukrainian press after an interview with the BBC, in which he discussed Russia's attacks on Ukraine and the drone incidents that affected Romania.
The publication Ukrainska Pravda interpreted his statements as problematic, claiming that Nicușor Dan asked Russia to strike cities in Ukraine without affecting Romania. In the interview, he mentioned that there have been over 20 drone incidents on Romanian territory in the last two years, some carrying explosives, thus highlighting the threat these attacks pose to Romanian citizens.
Although he warned about the risks, his statements did not directly condemn Russia's attacks, which generated critical reactions from Ukrainian commentators. Nevertheless, in a separate discussion with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Nicușor Dan stated that Russia must stop its attacks on Ukraine.
