Journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu critically analyzed the statements of President Nicușor Dan regarding the incident of the Russian drone that reached Romanian territory. CTP emphasized that Nicușor Dan's statements contributed to the spread of conspiracy theories, suggesting that the drone was intentionally diverted by Ukrainian defense systems. The journalist mentioned that, although he tried to minimize the impact of the statement, it had significant effects in the public space, fueling anti-Ukrainian rhetoric. CTP highlighted the contradiction between the president's statements and Romania's diplomatic actions, questioning why the Russian consul was expelled if the drone was not deliberately sent. He concluded that Nicușor Dan's position is either an attempt to gain votes or a sign of inconsistency.
"The gentle lamb suckles at two sheep"
If the proven Russian drone, which was going about its business, killing Ukrainian women and children, was diverted towards the women and children in Galați by an anti-aircraft strike from the Ukrainian army, as President Dan stated to the BBC without providing any evidence, then why are we expelling the Russian consul? To gain votes from Mr. Dan from both pro-European Romanians and anti-Ukrainian and anti-EU Romanians? With the last conspiracy theory being fueled, that Ukraine pushed the drone into Romania to drag us into war?" Cristian Tudor Popescu wrote in a brief post published on his Facebook page.
