CFR has signed the contract for the start of the modernization works on the Craiova - Caransebeș line.

Lot 6 of the Caransebeș – Poarta Nouă railway project, covering the section from km 436+887 to km 474+046, has been awarded to the consortium formed by the Turkish company IC Içtaş İnşaat and Rotary Construcții Mentenanță SA, with IC Içtaș as the leader. The contract value is 2,114,352,202.96 lei, with a total duration of 195 months, including 12 months for technical documentation, 60 months for the execution of works, 120 months for warranty, and 3 months for post-reception activities.

Funding comes from non-reimbursable external funds, the state budget, and other legal sources. The main objectives include modernizing the railway line, installing ERTMS safety systems, rehabilitating tunnels, and constructing two new tunnels, as well as improving infrastructure to meet European standards. The project will contribute to increasing traffic safety and improving passenger and freight mobility on this strategic corridor.
