A case of African swine fever was confirmed on a hunting ground in the locality of Oloșag, Timiș County, on February 5, 2026. The Timiș Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate announced that, following analyses, the virus was detected in wild boars. In light of this situation, a meeting of the Timiș Local Disease Control Center was convened, where measures were established to prevent the spread of the disease.

The affected area includes a radius of 8 km around the outbreak, with localities such as Tapia, Lugojel, and Măguri, while a buffer zone of 5 km includes other localities in Timiș and Caraș-Severin counties. Control measures will be maintained for 12 months and include the examination of wild pigs and the culling of those found dead or shot. It is important to mention that African swine fever does not affect humans, but it has a significant impact on the economy and society.
