All 5,720 animals at the commercial farm in Stâlpu, Buzau County, affected by an African swine fever outbreak, have been culled, and authorities have begun disinfection procedures to neutralize and control the disease.
According to the Buzau Prefecture, the first disinfection was carried out after the culling was completed, with another operation scheduled 24 hours later, on September 29. If all veterinary and sanitary requirements are met, the outbreak could be declared closed 33 days after this final disinfection.
Restrictions on the movement of animals and herds from farms in the affected area may be lifted only after the outbreak is officially closed. Until then, the movement of animals remains prohibited, except for transport to slaughter, under the conditions established by the authorities.
African swine fever poses no danger to humans, but it can cause significant losses among pig herds and in the livestock sector. The epidemiological situation continues to be monitored. The outbreak in Stâlpu was confirmed last week, and the Local Disease Control Center imposed mandatory measures in the locality.
