CNAIR: Proposals for amending the standards for express roads in Romania

The technical-economic council of CNAIR has conducted an analysis of road traffic on express roads in Romania and has decided that a series of modifications to the current standards is necessary.

The proposal includes widening the express road platform from 21.50 m to 23.00 m, to allow for an emergency stopping lane of 2.5 m. Additionally, stopping bays for emergency vehicle parking will be arranged at intervals of 1.5 km to 3 km, in areas with good visibility, each having a length of 145 m.

The modifications will be implemented for existing express roads, such as DEx Craiova - Pitești and DEx Tureni - A3, within future modernization projects. For express roads that have not yet been implemented, the modifications will be included in the design phase, such as DEx Arad-Oradea and DEx Suceava-Siret.
