CNAIR announces more than 1,477 km of high-speed roads and calls for digitalization, maintenance and additional staff

Romania has more than 1,477 kilometers of high-speed roads in operation, and the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR) must now focus not only on expanding the network, but also on maintaining and monitoring it. The statement was made Wednesday in Brașov by CNAIR Director General Cristian Pistol, during the meeting of the company’s section managers.

Pistol identified three essential priorities for the coming period: digitalization, maintenance and human resource development. He advocated using sensors for bridges and viaducts, infrastructure databases and artificial intelligence-based solutions to plan maintenance works.

The network managed by CNAIR exceeds 18,000 kilometers, while the costs of repairs, monitoring and modernization are rising. The company’s director also highlighted a staff shortage, with nearly 10% of positions frozen.

In preparation for the cold season, CNAIR units must ensure the necessary equipment and stocks of salt, calcium chloride and environmentally friendly solutions for rapid interventions on roads.
