The Local Council of the municipality of Cluj-Napoca has decided to collaborate with Metrorex, the company that manages the subway in Bucharest, to access funds from the European Union's Transport Program 2021–2027. The City Hall will remain the main beneficiary of the project, and the partnership with Metrorex will provide the necessary technical expertise and consultancy to meet the eligibility criteria for funding.

The project involves the construction of a subway line approximately 21.03 km long, which will include 19 underground stations and an above-ground depot, aiming to improve the capacity of urban and metropolitan transport. These details will be included in the funding application submitted to the EU to obtain the necessary resources for the implementation of the project.
