The problem of gambling is becoming increasingly visible in society, with a rise in cases of addiction and negative effects on families. The closure of gambling halls is a discussed solution for reducing social impact, but the Romanian Association for the Study of Gambling warns that this measure is not sufficient. Although closing these spaces could protect vulnerable groups, such as young people, the problem would shift to the online environment, where the risks are greater.
Additionally, closing the halls would lead to economic losses and job losses. The experience of other countries shows that strict regulations, such as access control and limiting advertising, are more effective. Measures such as raising the minimum age for participation and prevention programs can provide a balance between individual freedom and social protection.
