The Local Council of Timișoara decided, in the meeting on Tuesday, to completely ban gambling halls in the city. Starting today, no new halls will be authorized, and the existing ones will operate until their licenses expire, at the latest next year.
Dominic Fritz, the mayor of Timișoara, emphasized that this decision is the result of the efforts of his colleagues from USR, who advocated for local authorities to have control over these activities. Additionally, the president of the Timiș County Council, Alfred Simonis, announced that municipalities that will close gambling halls will receive funds for the construction or modernization of schools and kindergartens.
In the spring of this year, Timișoara had 173 authorized locations for gambling, and now the focus is on education at the expense of gambling.
