Călin Georgescu, former candidate in the presidential elections, was sanctioned by the National Authority for the Supervision of Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP) with a fine of 50,000 lei for violating the legislation regarding the protection of personal data. Between December 6, 2024, and April 3, 2025, Georgescu stored and accessed information through cookies without the users' consent. The Ilfov Tribunal rejected his appeal, but the decision is not final and can be challenged within 30 days.
The ANSPDCP investigation was triggered by a complaint and confirmed that Georgescu did not inform users about the data collection, thus violating legal regulations. He is also under judicial control in another case, being accused of legionary propaganda and subversive actions. Prosecutors claim that his actions endangered national security.
