Călin Georgescu is challenging in court the 200,000-lei fine imposed by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), in a case before the Bucharest District 3 Court. The case is scheduled for today at 11:30 a.m. and concerns how income and expenses from the 2024 electoral campaign were declared.
The case, registered under number 11299/301/2025, is being heard by the Civil Division and concerns a contraventional complaint filed against report series A 0005450. Călin Georgescu is the petitioner, the AEP is the respondent, and Nicodim-Eugen Lupea is listed as an intervener.
The AEP argued that Georgescu declared zero lei in both contributions and electoral expenses. He later announced that he had paid part of the fine and challenged the sanction in court.
The case has had several hearings. In February, the court rejected the objection of territorial jurisdiction and ordered that the proceedings continue on the merits. At the same time, the case was restored to the docket to examine the application for public legal aid and the admissibility of the intervention application.
On June 9, 2026, the court rejected the requests to refer questions to the Court of Justice of the European Union and the Constitutional Court of Romania, as well as the application for public legal aid.
