DIICOT prosecutors have challenged the judicial supervision measure imposed in the case of Călin Georgescu and are seeking the pretrial detention of the former presidential candidate. The appeal is being examined on Tuesday by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, where Georgescu arrived in the morning and is attending the hearing.

The case concerns allegations of forming an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences. According to information from the investigation, the damages claimed by a businessman amount to approximately 1.1 million euros.

Last week, the Bucharest Tribunal rejected DIICOT’s request for pretrial detention and ordered judicial supervision for 60 days. Prosecutors immediately appealed the decision, and the court is now to determine whether the measure will be maintained or replaced with a more severe one.

At present, Călin Georgescu is not allowed to leave the country, must report to the police weekly, and may not contact the people involved in the case. The prosecutors’ insistence on pretrial detention will be analyzed in the context of the allegations and the evidence gathered so far.
