Călin Georgescu, placed in preventive detention for 30 days by the Bucharest Court of Appeal

The Bucharest Court of Appeal ordered the pre-trial detention of Călin Georgescu for 30 days, by the Bucharest Court of Appeal.

DIICOT appealed the decision of the Bucharest Tribunal of September 22, by which the proposal for pre-trial detention was rejected, while Călin Georgescu and businessman Ionel Rusen were placed under judicial control for 60 days, until November 20, 2026. Prosecutors are requesting that the measure be replaced with pre-trial detention for 30 days.

The investigation concerns alleged damages of approximately 1.1 million euros, in a case initiated by a complaint from a businessman from Buzău. Prosecutors seized Georgescu’s villa in Mogoșoaia. He is also on trial in a case concerning actions against the constitutional order, in which the next hearing is scheduled for October 12.
