Călin Georgescu thanks his supporters through a message posted on his Facebook page, while he is in pretrial detention

Călin Georgescu delivered his first public message since being placed in pre-trial detention, in a post published on his Facebook page on the night of Friday to Saturday. The former presidential candidate thanked his supporters and told them: “Overwhelmed by your love, I return it to you a thousandfold! Thank you. I love you. Keep your spirits high!”

Georgescu has been in pre-trial detention since September 29, in a fraud case handled by DIICOT. The measure was ordered by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which overturned the first court’s decision to place him under judicial supervision.

The investigation began following a complaint filed by businessman Răzvan Leu, from Buzău, who claims he suffered losses of 1.1 million euros. According to prosecutors, he was allegedly persuaded to pay money to obtain a line of credit intended for a precious-metals business, but the loan was never granted, and the amount was allegedly not returned to him.

Between October 6 and 9, Georgescu was taken to DIICOT headquarters for the forensic examination of the devices seized from his home in Mogoșoaia. Prosecutors imposed a seizure on several bank accounts and on his villa. Georgescu is also being investigated in two other criminal cases, in both of which he has been indicted.
