Former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu sent a message on Facebook to his supporters about his legal situation. He mentioned that he is still behind bars, although the Bucharest Tribunal decided to place him under house arrest.
According to him, the judge of the Bucharest Tribunal will now draft the reasoned decision and forward the case file to the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The latter will rule on the appeal and issue a final decision.
He thanked his supporters for their support and asked them for patience and discernment.
The Bucharest Tribunal decided on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to replace the measure with house arrest. The decision is not final, and the prosecutors filed an appeal within the statutory 48-hour deadline.
Until the Court of Appeal issues its decision, the preventive arrest measure remains in force, meaning that Georgescu cannot be transferred home.
The Bucharest Tribunal granted the request to replace preventive arrest with a less severe measure. The decision was issued by Judge Vlad Andriescu, the same magistrate who had initially decided that Georgescu should be placed under judicial supervision, following the DIICOT request for preventive arrest.
The prosecutors appealed that decision at the time, and the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled in their favor, ordering the preventive arrest of the former candidate. The Tribunal's current decision may also be appealed, with the appellate court to determine the final measure.
