Călin Georgescu and Horațiu Potra are presented on Monday in front of the court, being accused of attempted coup d'état, along with 20 mercenaries. They are suspected of having prepared protests and actions to destabilize state institutions after the cancellation of the 2024 elections.
Potra, who is in preventive detention, and Georgescu, under judicial control, are trying to send the case back to the Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutors have interrogated 18 mercenaries and discovered a military arsenal in Potra's residences, including grenades and firearms. The charges include attempted actions against constitutional order and public incitement. Georgescu faces up to 10 years in prison for complicity.
