Călin Georgescu, present at the first hearing in the case concerning the attempted coup / The court postponed the case until October 12

Călin Georgescu appeared at the first substantive hearing of the trial in which he is being tried, alongside Horațiu Potra and the other defendants, on charges concerning actions against the constitutional order. The hearing took place at the court, and the case was postponed until October 12.

Călin Georgescu, Horațiu Potra, and the other defendants spent approximately 30 minutes in the courtroom. Upon leaving, supporters of the former presidential candidate tried to form a cordon around him. Georgescu then delivered a speech with a political message.

The first hearing had been scheduled for September 9, but the hearing was postponed at the request of Călin Georgescu’s lawyers. This time, he appeared in court, given that the judicial supervision measure obliges him to respond to the court’s requests.

The case was sent to trial by the General Prosecutor’s Office. According to investigators, Georgescu allegedly tried, with the support of Horațiu Potra, to organize violent events in Bucharest after the cancellation of the 2024 presidential election. Recently, Georgescu was placed under judicial supervision in a third case, handled by DIICOT prosecutors.
