The National Bank of Romania announces that it will no longer publish the exchange rate of the Bulgarian lev, following Bulgaria's accession to the euro area.

Bulgaria will join the eurozone and adopt the euro as its official currency starting January 1, 2026. The National Bank of Romania will cease to publish the exchange rate of the Bulgarian lev (BGN) against the Romanian leu (RON) from January 5, 2026. During the transition period, prices will be displayed in both lev and euro to ensure transparency and accuracy of conversions. Authorities will monitor the correct use of the exchange rate to prevent unjustified price increases. The exchange of lev for euro will be free at commercial banks and post offices until June 30, 2026, and the National Bank of Bulgaria will provide this service indefinitely.
