Bucharest's citizens will experience significant price hikes in public transportation, both on the metro, STB and rail. The metro ticket will increase from 5 lei to 7 lei, and the STB ticket will cost 5 lei, up from 3 lei. Subscriptions will also see increases, with a monthly metro pass going up to 160 lei. The Ministry of Transportation justifies the increases by rising operating costs, as well as an increase in VAT from August 1, 2025. Train tickets will also be more expensive.
