The general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, signed a financing contract on Monday with officials from the European Investment Bank (EIB) worth 265.6 million euros for the modernization of tram lines in Bucharest. The investments are essential, considering that the tram lines are over 50 years old and no longer meet current demands. With this money, important works will be carried out by 2029, including the modernization of 50 km of double tram track, the renovation of the Colentina depot, which is in a precarious state, and the purchase of 63 new trams by 2030. Ciprian Ciucu emphasized on Facebook that Bucharest urgently needs these investments to improve public transport for passengers.
