Bucharest City Hall and Sector 6 City Hall will cooperate to extend the Ciurel Overpass to the Bucharest Ring Road, with the aim of reducing congestion on Iuliu Maniu Boulevard and in the western part of the capital. The two administrations are due to sign a cooperation protocol to launch the project.

For the works to be carried out, a Zonal Urban Plan (PUZ) must be drawn up. Sector 6 City Hall will commission, prepare and finance the urban planning documentation from the local budget, while Bucharest City Hall will provide the necessary data and documents.

There is currently a temporary construction ban in the area until the PUZ is approved. The authorities say that extending the overpass would provide an alternative for easing traffic congestion in western Bucharest.

The Ciurel Overpass was started in 2014 and cost approximately 55 million euros. The initial project provided for a connection to the Bucharest Ring Road and the A1 Motorway, but this stage was never built. Bucharest City Hall says the new cooperation aims to resume and complete this connection. verbs
