The mountain rescuers from Sibiu have issued a warning for tourists, recommending that they avoid alpine trails at altitudes higher than 1,800 meters in the Făgăraș Mountains, especially in the Bâlea Lake area, where the avalanche risk has been raised to level 3. This warning is valid between December 30, 2025, at 2 PM, and December 31, 2025, at 8 PM. The strong wind has favored the accumulation of recent snow, forming unstable slabs, and the new snow is laid on an older, icy layer, with low adherence.

Specialists warn that small and medium avalanches can be triggered easily, even by low overloads. Tourists are advised to stay on marked trails, avoid exposed areas, and equip themselves properly for the winter season. The snow layer at Bâlea Lake measures 48 centimeters, and access is only by cable car, with traffic on the Transfăgărășan being closed.
