According to an analysis conducted by the Intelligent Energy Association (AEI), the areas with the most frequent incidents in the natural gas distribution network include Bucharest, Tunari, Corbeanca, Domnești, Sibiu, Cisnădie, and Bistrița. In the period from January to December 2024, dozens of technical incidents were reported, most caused by unauthorized or improper excavation work.

Dumitru Chisaliță, the president of AEI, emphasizes that each gas explosion reflects collective negligence and a lack of information regarding underground infrastructure. AEI considers it unacceptable for Romania not to have a public information system about critical underground infrastructure by 2025. The association urges the authorities to support the initiative to increase transparency of the infrastructure and to implement a national digital system for consulting the location of pipelines before excavation work, in order to reduce the risks of accidents and promote a culture of prevention.
