Over the past year, 28% of Romanians turned to a plumber, electrician or locksmith after an incident at home—4 percentage points more than during the same period in 2025, according to a study conducted by IRES at UNSAR’s request.
Most requests came from people aged between 18 and 35, living in urban areas. At the same time, one in five Romanians says they have suffered damage to property due to a short circuit or voltage fluctuation.
UNSAR data show that last year, an average of seven families a day received compensation for property affected by electrical phenomena in insured homes. Half of Romanians know that such damage can be covered through optional home insurance. A similar level of awareness exists regarding damage to indoor gas, water and sewage, air-conditioning and heating systems.
Protection for rented homes is less well known: only nearly three in ten Romanians know that damage caused by tenants can be covered by an insurance policy. In October, UNSAR is running the “Be #sigurACASĂ! Every Day” campaign, dedicated to prevention and raising awareness about home insurance. Coverage depends on the risks and clauses included in the policy.
