The National Administration 'Apele Române' (ANAR) has denied the information according to which the European Union would have imposed the demolition of dams or the emptying of water reservoirs in Romania.

ANAR emphasizes that it has not received any instructions from the EU in this regard, and all decisions are made by the Romanian authorities. The figure of approximately 1,200,000 'barriers' circulated in the public space actually refers to minor hydraulic works, not large dams. The strategic dams for Romania, such as the Iron Gates or Vidraru, are not targeted by these recommendations. ANAR manages 82 important dams and 329 smaller dams, all constantly monitored. Decisions regarding dams are made at the national level, according to Romanian regulations and the recommendations of specialists, thus ensuring proper management of water resources.
