A warning message regarding the controlled release of water from a dam on the Bistrița River was sent by mistake on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m., to the population of Brăila and Galați counties. The Brăila and Galați Emergency Situations Inspectorates stated that the alert did not announce an emergency situation in these counties.
The message referred to a controlled release from the Reconstrucția Dam, on the Bistrița River, in the area of the Piatra Neamț reservoir. The transmission to the population of Brăila and Galați was caused by a software error in the flood notification and alert system on the Siret River, which also operates in these counties.
The Galați Emergency Situations Inspectorate stated that the RO-ALERT message did not require any additional measures from the population. The Brăila Emergency Situations Inspectorate said that residents and authorities in localities located in the major riverbed of the Siret River would be promptly informed in the event of releases that could affect them.
According to the Neamț Emergency Situations Inspectorate, the information regarding the release from the dam was received from Hidroelectrica and transmitted by the economic operator. The authorities stressed that the software error caused the message to reach Brăila and Galați counties accidentally as well.
