Alexis Pinturault, the French skier with an impressive record, including 34 victories in the World Cup and three Olympic medals, was not included in the French team for the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, scheduled between February 6 and 22.
At 34 years old, Pinturault dreamed of one last Olympic participation, after going through two difficult winters due to serious injuries. Although France will send a large delegation of 160 athletes, the selection for alpine skiing was limited to just seven men, due to complex rules for allocating Olympic quotas. The selectors opted for athletes with the best recent performances, leaving Pinturault out of the team, despite his efforts to focus on the giant slalom to secure a qualification. His results this season were not enough to guarantee him a spot on the team.
