Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, winner of the overall World Cup standings in 2020, suffered an Achilles tendon rupture during a downhill training session held on Wednesday in Chile. The injury occurred following a fall, the Norwegian Ski Federation announced.
The 34-year-old athlete must return to Innsbruck, Austria, where he will undergo further medical examinations. Together with his medical team, Kilde will assess his treatment options. The Norwegian federation has not yet specified how long he will be sidelined.
The injury represents another major setback in the skier’s career, after he suffered a serious fall in the downhill event in Wengen in January 2024. Following several operations and a lengthy recovery period, he returned to the World Cup at the end of 2025, but missed the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games in February 2026.
Kilde has 21 World Cup victories, two Olympic medals and two silver medals at the 2023 World Championships.
