On Friday evening, a passenger ship carrying 137 people had an accident on the Main-Danube Canal, in Bavaria, Germany, hitting a bridge while preparing to enter a lock, near the town of Dietfurt. Authorities confirmed that the crew and passengers are safe. Police explained that the ship's steering was not lowered sufficiently, which led to the collision with the bridge, causing damage estimated at several tens of thousands of euros. The ship has been prohibited from continuing its journey until the situation is remedied. This incident recalls other recent maritime accidents, including a South Korean ferry that sank in 2025 and a Bulgarian cruise ship that crashed into a concrete wall in 2024.
