A naval accident occurred on Tuesday in Tulcea, involving the vessel Prince Zafer, flying the flag of the Comoros Islands, which struck a passenger pontoon. The ship, with a capacity of 7,868 TDW, was coming from Sulina and was heading towards the Moldovan port of Giurgiulești to load grain.
According to representatives of the Lower Danube River Administration (AFDJ) in Galați, the ship's pilot reported a malfunction in the generators, which led to a loss of control over the steering. The incident was close to causing a tragedy, as a vessel with 30 passengers had just departed from the struck pontoon. The cargo ship struck the left bank with its bow and damaged the docking pontoon.
Traffic on the Danube was not disrupted, and the cargo ship was towed after approximately 30 minutes. The vice mayor of the Ceatalchioi commune confirmed that there were no casualties, and the vessel was moving at a low speed.
