CNAIR has postponed the opening to traffic of approximately 13 kilometers of the A0 North, scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026, between Afumați, Pantelimon, and the connection with the A2 Motorway. The company maintains that further work is still needed on Lot 3 for drivers’ safety and comfort and accuses former State Secretary Horațiu Cosma of prematurely announcing the inauguration.
According to CNAIR, the contractor still needs to install more than 100 meters of guardrails, complete the road markings and signage, as well as the rainwater collection systems. Acceptance of the section has not begun, and the company refuses to announce a new opening date.
Lot 3, measuring 8.6 kilometers in length, is being built by the Chinese company CCECC and is approximately 98% physically complete. Lot 4, measuring 4.47 kilometers and built by UMB and completed in the summer, cannot be used separately and is awaiting the opening of the adjacent section.
On the other hand, Horațiu Cosma claims in a Facebook post that the works would have needed another two or three days to be completed and accuses the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and CNAIR of postponing the inauguration because of “political egos.” After the opening of the two lots, around 83 of the approximately 100 kilometers of the A0 are expected to be opened to traffic.
