Traffic on approximately 13 kilometers of the A0 North Capital Ring Motorway, between Afumați, Pantelimon and the connection with the A2 Motorway toward Constanța, will open on Monday, October 26, Horațiu Cosma, secretary of state at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, announced.
Both sections will be opened to traffic: Lot 3, between Afumați and Pantelimon, and Lot 4, between Pantelimon and Cernica, at the intersection with A2. The opening will provide a continuous connection between the A1, A2, A3 and DN1 motorways, at Otopeni, via the southern, eastern and northern areas of the capital.
According to the official, the new section will ease pressure on the roads around Bucharest and allow faster travel through the northern and eastern areas without using the existing ring road, which is heavily congested. The connection is important both for passenger traffic and freight transport.
Cosma said that work on Lot 4 had been completed as early as the summer, but the section could not be opened because an exit toward DN3 had not been built. Lot 3 was supposed to be completed a year earlier, but the works were delayed. The secretary of state asked CNAIR to conduct a contractual analysis and apply the penalties предусмотрed for the companies responsible.
