A drone entered Romania’s airspace on the night of September 26, near the town of Chilia Veche, Tulcea County, in the area of the river border with Ukraine. The Ministry of National Defence announced that the target was detected by the radar system and monitored for several minutes.
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and at 11:32 p.m. an RO-Alert message was sent to the population in northern Tulcea County.
To verify the situation, two F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air and Space Force, serving in Enhanced Air Policing, were scrambled, along with an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter of the Romanian Air Force.
According to the Ministry of National Defence, the drone entered national airspace near Chilia Veche and followed a route almost parallel to the Chilia branch. The radar signal was lost in the area of Pardina. The air alert ended at 12:48 a.m.
The Ministry has not yet specified where the drone crashed or whether any debris was identified.
