According to Eurostat, in 2024, 8.5% of the population of the European Union did not have access to meals containing meat or fish every two days, a decrease from 9.5% in 2023. Romania recorded an improvement, with 16.3% of the population affected, down from 23.3% in 2023. The highest percentages are found in Bulgaria (18.7%) and Slovakia (17.1%). Among those at risk of poverty, 19.4% could not afford adequate meals, and Romania decreased from 43% in 2022 to 27.7% in 2024. This data aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to eradicate hunger by 2030.
