A painting by Peter Paul Rubens, "Christ on the Cross", missing since 1613, was rediscovered in 2024 in a private residence in Paris. The work, measuring 105.5 x 72.5 cm, was sold at an auction in Versailles for 2.94 million euros. The painting was originally intended for a private collector, not a church. It came into the possession of the painter William Bouguereau or his daughter, remaining in their family for generations. Only recently did the heirs decide to put it up for sale.
