The Romanian Patriarchate has sent a point of view in which it distances itself from the legionary demonstrations that took place at the tomb of priest Ilie Lăcătușu, canonized last year. These events, which included symbols of the legionary movement, are considered contrary to Christian laws and values. The Patriarchate stressed that Ilie Lăcătușu was canonized for his faith, not for his association with extremist ideologies. The police confirmed the presence of a flag with fascist insignia at the event and opened checks. It is also noted that legionary demonstrations are banned in Romania, but have been lightly enforced in the past.
