The organizer of the arms smuggling scheme at the Leușeni-Albița border has been arrested for 30 days.

A 52-year-old man, the administrator of a company, has been arrested for 30 days by the court in Chișinău, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office for the Fight Against Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS), being accused of organizing a smuggling scheme with weapons through the Leușeni-Albița border. He refused to answer journalists' questions and claims his innocence through his lawyer.

In this investigation, five people are already in custody, including the exporter and the transporter, and a Moldovan driver has been detained in Romania.

The weapons, which included ammunition and a launcher, were smuggled into the Republic of Moldova from Ukraine, being transported camouflaged. Moldovan authorities are collaborating with Romanian authorities to investigate the case, emphasizing that no military sources for the involved weapons have been identified. There are also suspicions that this incident could be used to discredit the Republic of Moldova. The investigation began after a truck was detected at the border, destined for Israel.
