Lionel Messi scored with a header and provided an assist, as Inter Miami won the Campeones Cup on Wednesday after defeating Cruz Azul 2-0 in the annual clash between the Major League Soccer champions and Mexico's Liga MX champions.

The victory gave Messi his first trophy of the year, two months after the disappointment of losing the 2026 World Cup final to Spain with Argentina.

The trophy came in the very first match of new head coach Cristian “Kily” Gonzalez in charge of Miami.
