The organizers of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament had one wild card available and decided to offer it to Serena Williams, the holder of 23 Grand Slam trophies. The 44-year-old American returned to the circuit in June of this year, playing doubles alongside her sister, Venus (46 years old).

Serena, who played her last singles match in 2022 at the US Open, was evasive in her responses at press conferences in London and Berlin, saying that she does not know if she will play at Wimbledon, but now, with this wild card, the American can make her return to singles right at the London tournament.
