Răzvan Burleanu was re-elected president of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) with 258 votes, while his opponent, Ilie Drăgan, received only 5 votes, and one vote was annulled. The elections took place without a strong rival for Burleanu, who benefited from broad support from affiliated members. Before the vote, Burleanu emphasized the trust he has from them, mentioning that over 80% of them sent him letters of support. Incidents during the voting marked the event, with Drăgan expressing his dissatisfaction with the organization of the elections and accusing it of dictatorship, while Adrian Mititelu protested against Burleanu.
"We voted for Ilie Drăgan and we are going to TAS. We are going there to defend our dignity. There are two candidates, one is not allowed to run according to the statute. And we voted for the other one.
I don't want a scandal, I want dignity. And for the last 12 years, my dignity has been trampled on. With my vote, Ilie Drăgan can win. Why? If we win at TAS and Burleanu's candidacy is annulled, then he will become president with our vote. Otherwise, the elections will be annulled and they will be able to put their man in. Why should they do that? I don't want a scandal with anyone, I have no problem with Burleanu, but let my family and dignity be in peace. It is a tyrannical leadership, you have served three terms, enough! Now he wants another one, even though he violates all European laws and everything. I want to defend my dignity. Go and spend your money with your family and leave my family in peace.
As far as I'm concerned, let him stay for 20 terms, but let him leave my family in peace. Because he has taken his salaries and bonuses entirely with our money. Let him leave us alone, as it has been 12 years in which my dignity has been trampled on," declared Gigi Becali, for Fanatik.
