Răzvan Burleanu announced on Tuesday, after the meeting of the FRF Executive Committee, that the federation had not discussed ending its collaboration with Gheorghe Hagi or members of the technical staff, despite Romania’s four defeats in the Nations League. The FRF president said that the national team coach continues to have his support and that the main objective remains qualifying for EURO 2028.
Romania lost its first group matches against Sweden, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Burleanu acknowledged that the team is going through a difficult period. However, he called for time, continuity and stability to build a solid technical project, and said that the staff must find solutions before the next international window, in November.
The FRF official cited the precedent set in 2022, when the federation supported Edi Iordănescu, and Romania subsequently finished the EURO 2024 qualifying campaign in first place. Burleanu also outlined a vision for more attacking football, based on player development and the growth of academies.
At the same meeting, the FRF approved new licensing and financial sustainability rules, increased the acceptable deficit for clubs, and announced mandatory anti-doping and first-aid courses.
