Novak Djokovic surprisingly exited Roland Garros, being defeated in the third round by the young Brazilian Joao Fonseca, aged 19. The match played on the Philippe-Chatrier court was dramatic, with Fonseca coming back from 0-2 in sets to win 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5. Djokovic controlled the first two sets, but Fonseca began to play aggressively in the third set, gradually taking control. At the end of the match, Fonseca stated that it was a great pleasure to play against a legend like Djokovic.
Tensions were also evident in Djokovic's camp, who had a nervous exchange with a cameraman. Fonseca managed the decisive break at 5-5 in the final set, closing the match on his own serve. This victory comes in a context of surprises in the men's competition, after world number one Jannik Sinner was eliminated a day earlier. Fonseca will play in the round of 16 against the winner between Casper Ruud and Tommy Paul.
