Nico Schlotterbeck, central defender of the German national team, has been declared unavailable for the rest of the World Cup due to an injury to his left ankle. The injury occurred during the match in which Germany defeated the Ivory Coast 2-1, and Schlotterbeck was replaced by Antonio Rudiger at halftime. According to a statement from the German national team, the player suffered a medial collateral ligament injury and will be out for several months.

Although he will not be able to play, Schlotterbeck will remain with the team in the USA for the time being. Germany has already secured the top position in Group E and has qualified for the knockout stage, set to play against Ecuador on Thursday evening.
