Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, won the sprint race at the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix, which was delayed by 30 minutes because of rain. The victory marks the Dutchman’s second consecutive success, following his triumph at last week’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari finished the race in second place, while his teammate, Charles Leclerc, took third. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli finished fourth, while Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls came in fifth.
The short race was marked by numerous incidents and saw nine retirements. George Russell was among the drivers who withdrew. The Mercedes driver crossed a boundary line, lost control of his car and, after rejoining the track, crashed into a wall.
Isack Hadjar apparently retired because of an engine problem with the Red Bull car, withdrawing under the safety car regime following Russell’s crash. The main Singapore Grand Prix race is scheduled for Sunday.
