Ilia Malinin, considered a favorite for the gold medal in the men's figure skating event at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, had a disappointing performance, falling twice and finishing in 8th place with 264.49 points. Malinin admitted that the pressure was overwhelming, affecting his performance.

In contrast, Mikhail Shaidorov from Kazakhstan skated flawlessly and won the gold, marking Kazakhstan's first Olympic gold medal in winter since 1994. Additionally, many of the top competitors faced difficulties, with five of the six finalists suffering falls.
