Cuban weightlifter Luis Lauret, representing Romania, won the silver medal in the snatch on Friday at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Ningbo, China. The athlete, registered with Olimpia Bucharest Sports Club, finished the event with a successful attempt at 194 kilograms.
Lauret then failed in his attempt to lift 198 kilograms, a weight that would have earned him a world record. His performance in the snatch secured the world silver medal in the 110-kilogram category.
In the clean and jerk, the Romanian athlete lifted 222 kilograms and finished in seventh place. He missed his third attempt at 226 kilograms.
In the total, the Olympic event combining the results from the snatch and the clean and jerk, Luis Lauret finished the competition in fourth place, with 416 kilograms. The weightlifter narrowly missed the podium, finishing just one kilogram behind the bronze medalist.
