Gabriela Ruse qualified for the second round of the Miami tournament after defeating the Croatian Antonia Ruzic, ranked 55th in the world, with a score of 7-5, 7-6 (3), in a match that lasted two hours and 6 minutes. Ruzic led 5-3 in the first set, but Gabriela came back with four games in a row and won the first set 7-5. The second set was also balanced. Ruse did not close the match when she had the chance and served at 5-4, but she secured victory, ultimately, in the tiebreak.
